BLOG EXHIBITION DATE 2019
Wow, Grade 3!
What a dynamic end to the school year! Collaborating with our Performing Arts team, Ms Julie and Ms Pouk, was a real treat. As you researched and created artifacts from across time and place, you worked on a performance that shared the importance of imagination and creativity. In the process you designed and made the set, costumes, posters and programs to support the performance. Your final presentation to the community was a 30-minute performance and an art exhibit displaying your creations. Check out the art here! Amazing effort, Grade 3! :0)Ms Angie

Hiya, Grade 3!
What a treat we had in creating a collaborative mosaic mural with our sister school students. Ms Chantal Leblanc visited us all the way from Canada and taught us how to create this beautiful artwork. You were even in the NEWS!!! https://www.facebook.com/159023380915975/videos/855080797976893/ This was a great jumping-off point for your inquiry into artifacts. Mosaics, throughout time, show what is important to the artist and often times the greater community. With the design inspired by our Lao students and our Grade 4 students, we worked diligently to bring the mosaic to life. We marked a time in history and demonstrated how important our connection to our Host country of Laos is to students and teachers alike! Check out the art in the Gallery! Way to go, Grade 3!! :0)Ms Angie Hiya Grade 3!
You happily continued your learning about messages as we transitioned into a new homeroom unit of inquiry about food security around the world. It is not easy to learn about people having limited access to food or who develop illnesses do to poor food storage or lack of hygienic practises that reduce the chances of disease. What you did to help you process this was to create informational posters designed to both inform and influence people around the globe. The posters you made were in different languages and had varying messages from how to wash your hands to where you should store your food. We shared these posters with experts in the fields of nutrition and potentially saved lives through educating our wider community. Check out the art here! Keep learning and acting, Grade 3!! :0)Ms Angie Welcome to Grade 3!!!
I am so excited to see where your creativity will take us! Your first project for the year was all about messages and how we can communicate ideas to people. As a provocation, we played a song called Message in a Bottle by The Police. This song not only inspired you, it guided the next few weeks of our learning. Being that you are all Grade 3s now, you have much more freedom to express yourselves and to choose what kind of artwork you would like to do. I was impressed with the variety of thoughtful conversations and ideas for action that were bubbling up throughout our lessons. You chose to communicate your thinking through sculptures, pottery, fabrics and language. The projects were varied and interesting while demonstrating your understanding of how messages move humans to think and act differently. Check out the art here! Super fun! :0)Ms Angie Hey, Grade 2!
We connected to your homeroom inquiry for this project about the environment. The concept of environment was a big topic of conversation. We discussed ownership, respect, healthfulness and animals when considering how humans interact with a variety of environments. As a result of our thinking, we came up with a plan to create a thought-provoking display of a pond that had been treated respectfully by human beings bisected by a pond that was covered in litter and filled with pollution. We asked our community to comment on this display and realized that a lot of people believed that we should not put rubbish and pollution into places where animals live. In the final phase of this artistic endeavor, you created a pristine pond to demonstrate the beauty and balance that exists in nature. Check out the art here! Way to go, Grade 2! :0)Ms Angie Salutations, Grade 2!
For our celebration of One World Day, you chose a country that you felt connected to for a quick and easy artwork to decorate our parade path. We discussed the many ways that color and shape can be used to communicate and to bring life and meaning to community spaces. Your efforts resulted in a chain of linked communities from around the world that spanned 50 meters!!! Check out the art here! Well done, Grade 2! :0)Ms Angie Salutations, Grade 2!!
To explore the mathematical concepts of balance and symmetry, we looked to create a hat that used patterning to create colorful and beautiful designs. After identifying what balance and symmetry meant, you found out that, though they are related, they are also completely different. It was surprising to see that something could look, feel and move with balance and be completely asymmetrical at the same time. After planning and executing your mostly symmetrical, patterned designs, you then planned out a photo shoot with your hats to show how asymmetrical designs could appear balanced. Angie AndreasWith a career spanning 25 years, I have worked alongside children from infancy to 9th grade in a generalist classroom setting. To my delight and surprise, an opportunity arose for me to become an art teacher in 2015. My first year was a learning experience and I expect that will be the case with all the years to follow.
