Understanding the properties of materials is an important part of Visual Arts. Part 1 - Giacometti30/10/2015 Sabaidee, Grade 1!
Alberto Giacometti http://www.fondation-giacometti.fr/en/art/16/discover-the-artwork/ inspired this exploration into the properties of matter. His ability to capture movement and mood was all it took to get us thinking and doing. During this unit, we discussed texture and form more than color. We used used flexible foil and rock and observed how they were different from each other. Then you all tried different movements to see how you might like your sculpture to look. We faced some challenges on how to keep the foil together. Your creative problem solving skills demonstrated your growing artistic abilities. I was well impressed!! In the end, everyone had interesting poses and meaningful gestures that explored the concepts of perspective and expression of mood. Check out your artwork in the Gallery! Well done, Grade 1!!! :0)Ms Angie

Sabaidee, Grade 1!
At the beginning of the year, we discuss how groups people can make an artwork together, introducing the idea that Many hands make light work. After exploring the glassworks artist, Dale Chilhuly ( chihuly.com ), we decided to make a collaborative work of art. Being inspired by the light and color of glass, we chose a close cousin to work with...PLASTIC! We reused water bottles, chose a the color theme of blues and greens to represent the earth, and went about making a huge sculpture for our One World Day celebration. It was so lovely, that one family even took it home after the day. Well done, children!! :0)Ms Angie Sabaidee, Grade 1!
To connect with your homeroom unit of inquiry, we created relationship sticks to show that we can find commonality between us. We used leftover yarn or wool to wrap twigs we found around the school. After completion, we put our sticks on display and found two or more that could be connected. These connections were through patterns, colors, lengths and widths. No one's project was left out. We saw that everything was related in some way. In the end, we combined all of our sticks together to make a Relationship Tree. It was challenging and rewarding and helps us remember... We are all in this together! :0)Ms Angie |
Angie AndreasWith a career spanning 25 years, I have worked alongside children from infancy to 9th grade in a generalist classroom setting. To my delight and surprise, an opportunity arose for me to become an art teacher in 2015. My first year was a learning experience and I expect that will be the case with all the years to follow.
