Sabaidee, Grade 1!
We are so lucky that we were able to work with clay this term. It is such a treat to mold and fashion hand built creations. Since we are preparing to do a play in Performing Afts that was all about a turtle, we chose to create little turtles out of clay as a keepsake from this time in Grade 1. First, we explored the different shapes and forms that made up a turtle. We learned new vocabulary words like sphere, semi-sphere, cylinder and cone. we also learned about how to connect clay to clay to ensure the pieces stay together after they dried. Your turtles were soooooo cute! We had some breakages that Mr Somphong and I fixed with super glue. Easy Peasy! After the first firing, you were all interested in how much the turtles shrank. We talked about the properties of clay and that after firing, the clay can shrink up to 30%. That's a lot! In the end, we used your turtles to decorate the Grade 2 play on the importance of considering the effects our actions have on a variety of habitats! Check out your artwork in the Gallery! Way to go, kiddos! :0)Ms Angie

Angie AndreasWith a career spanning 25 years, I have worked alongside children from infancy to 9th grade in a generalist classroom setting. To my delight and surprise, an opportunity arose for me to become an art teacher in 2015. My first year was a learning experience and I expect that will be the case with all the years to follow.
