Dear All,
You have come a long way since the beginning of the school year. You started with great momentum and demonstrated heaps of creativity when you planned, designed, and turned your imaginings to life. All artworks in your grade level color were finished on campus this year. The artworks in the final HUGE gallery post for the year were part of your online learning. You had 10 weeks of creating at home, with limited supplies and increased independence. You showed your resolve to stay connected and your love for The Arts! Here is wishing you a restful and healthful break. For those who are leaving, I wish you well and hope to see you some where, some time, and for those who are returning, I cannot wait to see you again! Until then, Ms Angie

During the December break, many or our artworks were culled in a deep cleaning that occurs over long breaks. This was heartbreaking for the students and has impacted our community of artists. I cannot begin to express the feeling one has from telling the news to 12 classes of students, seeing their shock, and being a witness to how resilient young people can be in difficult situations. I am happy to report that we have recovered and are creating again. Check out the Gallery to see the variety of expression that exists from choice! Dear, lovely, creative innovators, This is a shared letter to all of you. It is shared because each one of you is so very unique in your process. Weird, right? Before, we co-created projects for the grade level based on a central or big idea. Now your interests drive your expression. I have challenged and changed my philosophy (the believing) and practice (the doing) over the four and growing years as your Visual Arts teacher. My new understanding allows me to give you full ownership. Together we face the challenge of documenting your process, making sure we celebrate, capture, and acknowledge your story. Due to the specialized nature of each project, your grade level’s gallery will be added to on a regular basis. So far, we have finished a few projects with many more on the way. In addition to this, and process posts on your Seesaw accounts, pop-up galleries throughout the year will be another way for you to share your learning with our community. You are all well on your way to establishing yourselves as artists! You are driven and purposeful, while being unafraid to make mistakes along the way. Understanding that we, as artists, are just like scientists. We hypothesize, test, observe, reflect, and at times, redo! Kudos to you kiddos for being such amazing risk-takers this year! Also, 'WOW' on your graduation caps! I loved how they all matched and were all very different at the same. How wonderful to finish off the year and celebrate what is to come. You are very into creating unique projects! I see that you are inspired by others and then change the elements of art to make it your own. You may change the shape, size, or color of a cat or car to make it a perfect fit for you. One of my favourite things about your time in class is helping you to find ways to bring your ideas to life! You really know how to take on a challenge! One of you became curious about an artwork that you saw on the wall. This was a great in to discuss how different materials interact with each other. We also discovered that the order in which you do things can matter. If you put the wax color on after painting, the color did not stand out as much. Check out your gallery to see the final pieces. :0) Ms Angie Hiya, Prep! After studying the work of Eric Carle, we decided to create some cool looking fish, using space, shape, color, and texture to guide our choices. We saw that certain shapes in certain places made our audience see fish eyes or fins or bodies. You noticed that, when we put a tiny black circle on top of a slightly bigger white circle and then put those near the front of the fish body, people would see 'eyes'. It was fun to change the eye to different places and to see how unusual it looked in the 'wrong' space. Later, we can transform these fish into a fun game to play at The Arts of March!! Your pots are so creative! I was surprised about how many ways you could transform a pinch pot. I saw some of you make animals and others teacups. Some of you made ice-cream sundaes! You shared your questions with me and helped each other if someone needed advice or ideas. I cannot wait for them to get cooked, or fired, in January! Then you will be able to use color and texture to make the pieces communicate even better! :0)Ms Angie |
Angie AndreasWith a career spanning 25 years, I have worked alongside children from infancy to 9th grade in a generalist classroom setting. To my delight and surprise, an opportunity arose for me to become an art teacher in 2015. My first year was a learning experience and I expect that will be the case with all the years to follow.
