BLOG EXHIBITION DATE 2021
Dear Prep, Grade 1, and Grade 2,
I like to call you all the ‘Bubble Crew’. Your experience with Mr Alex Face was short and sweet. You provided the bubble effect for our Sea of Graffiti by the pool. Now Baby Rabbit has a wonderful place to swim and frolic! Love your work, :0)Ms Angie

Dear Grade 2,
When considering the idea that our choices and actions can shape the world, you inquired into the relationship between cause and effect from a Visual Arts perspective. How do people shape their world through their actions? After great discussions and interesting thinking, you watched a short film about “Paying it forward”. It was this film that inspired you to create posters based on ways you could illustrate the idea that when you act in positive ways, your actions influence others. To make things interesting, you all came up with a few slogans to use on your posters. Be the Change Pay it Forward Pass it on... Domino Effect During this process, you learned about layout, font, color, illustrations, and how to influence others through images. Check out the posters and the ideas you expressed through them…you might find yourself sharing an extra smile with a passerby. You never know what effect you may cause… :0)Ms Angie Hey Grade 2!
You never fail to impress me! Your efforts on the mural were well-received by the community. Grade 2 contributed the grassy hills. Check out this video with Grade 2 family's showing up on the weekend to create this collaborative artwork! :0)Ms A Hey Grade 2! Wow! I am enjoying our process of understanding how to SPACE ceramic tiles. I trust you are, too! When we create our collaborative mural, we will need to be very careful about spacing. Tiles must be placed just right in order for the image to be seen. They must not overlap or be too far away from the other tiles. WE are almost finished with our paper mosaics. Our next step will be just as exciting! To celebrate our community and the individuals within our community, we will create a collaborative ceramic tiled mural...how can we represent the individual within the community and the community as well? Stay tuned...we shall see!!! :0)Ms Angie Hello, Grade 2.
So looking forward to seeing your wonderful work as the year progresses...I see painting, drawing and mosaic making in your future! :0)Ms Angie What fun, Grade 1!!
You really demonstrated your creativity when you designed and produced an original sketch in your Arts book, found materials and made a mask to use in the performance for World Book Day. In Performing Arts, you learned a cool dance and helped to write a song around your characters. We had goosebumps when we heard you perform! Check it out in the gallery. Lovely work, Grade 1! :0)Ms Angie Sabaidee, Grade 1! During your first unit of inquiry, you used Visual Arts to understand the idea of perspective. To illustrate the point, you imagined yourself inside a home looking out of a window, and then outside of a home, looking inside. This gave you an opportunity to see how when you change your point of view, what you see changes along with it. We had lots of fun changing places with each other in the art room to see what someone else would see from across the circle. After this learning experience, you went into your art book and sketched an outside scene and an inside scene from your imagination or from your real life. Then next step of your project was to draw those images in pencil on a two-sided board: one image on each side. After that you traced the lines in permanent marker and then painted the sides one at a time. When painting the boards you learned about the background and the foreground of a picture. This helped you to understand the painting process and determine what should be painted first. Check out your artwork in the gallery. So impressed with your progress!!! :0)Ms A Hello All, We have had a huge discussion across grade levels and classrooms about what UBUNTU means. Here is an account of what we discussed and how we, as a school, designed a collaborative visual expression to display.
UBUNTU: An ancient African word expressing…I am because we are. When given the concept of UBUNTU to explore, students from Prep to Grade 5 unpacked and analyzed what this idea meant to them. They viewed images and videos, explored the symbolism of unity and had small and whole group discussions that eventually built a unique, collective perspective. Through collaborations, students added to each other’s understandings. They shared messages between classes and an inquiry was developed. Why are we who we are? The answers grew into a new thought, ‘I am me because of the people who are around me.’ The ideas of appreciation, influence and inspiration began to bubble up along with new questions… Who has shaped me? How do I demonstrate their influence? How do I share my ideas visually? With these questions came possibilities and ways to communicate their new understandings of UBUNTU, identity, humanity, self, other and influence. Some students suggested human mandalas, weavings, photography, hand art, paintings and portraits. The portrait display here is the first installment of their thinking that demonstrates their responses to UBUNTU. These faces are representations of the people who influence the students and teachers here at VIS. There are mums and dads, brothers and sisters, cousins, aunties and uncles, grandparents, teachers, friends, scientists, lawyers, actors, singers, sports figures, historical heroes and super heroes! In this process, a new vision of this ancient African word has developed… UBUNTU In the appreciation of others, we become ourselves. Sabaidee, Grade 1!
I hope you had a great break and welcome you to your Grade 1 year of creativity! :0)Ms Angie Hello Preps! You have impressed me again!! You used your imagination to create paintings of animals with human interests and attributes. You were inspired by your central idea and the artist Beatrix Potter. You were tasked to create an animal and personify it. There were many steps in your process. We brainstormed ideas, created a rough draft in your books, began the final piece in pencil, traced the pencil in ink, then used watercolor to paint the background and foreground of the artwork. When you were finished, you wrote a little biography in your class to connect to you character. This was your final piece as Prep students. Check out your artwork in the Gallery! Well done to you all for an amazing year of learning!! :0)Ms A |
Angie AndreasWith a career spanning 25 years, I have worked alongside children from infancy to 9th grade in a generalist classroom setting. To my delight and surprise, an opportunity arose for me to become an art teacher in 2015. My first year was a learning experience and I expect that will be the case with all the years to follow.
